Back in early February of this year, the ExCel building hosted one of the largest exhibitions in the gambling industry, ICE London. For several days this place turned into one big, noisy and bright holiday. Almost two months later, the mood here has changed dramatically. Today, the exhibition hall is being prepared as a temporary hospital to fight the coronavirus.
The building is planned to accommodate 4,000 beds in two different blocks. This should relieve the national health care system a bit. The opening of the hospital, which will be called NHS Nightingale Hospital, is scheduled for next week.
This place, where only recently life was in full swing, and the excitement of the gambling atmosphere was felt, will now contribute to the struggle for life. The kilometer-long exhibition hall will be nothing but hospital beds and medical equipment.
According to one of the workers who is engaged in refurbishment, two morgues will be built there. So it's obvious that the government expects more deaths. The employee noted that before that he did not understand the seriousness of the situation until he came to work in the morning and saw the scale.
